The Independent Commission on Mental Health and Policing has launched a public consultation on mental health and policing in reference to the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) in London.
The consultation is open to anyone who wants to share their views about the MPS; the Commission wishes to gather a range of views to help make its final report relevant and grounded, strengthened by direct experiences and views from the public. The website (https://mentalhealthpolicing-independent.wazoku.com) will allow people to securely and anonymously share their experiences and opinions about the key issues in mental health and policing.
The Independent Commission on Mental Health and Policing was set up to carry out an independent examination of cases, within the past 5 years, of death or serious injury of people with a mental illness, after contact with the MPS.
The Commission will make recommendations that seek to assist the MPS response and actions where mental health is, or is perceived to be, a key component.
Chair of the Commission, Lord Victor Adebowale, said: “This is the opportunity for London to get involved with the work of the Commission – we are helping the police to improve a key area of their work and your contribution will help us to get it right.”
The consultation will close on February 8.
